GOVERNMENT IS ACTING TO ENSURE TRANSPARENT PLANNING SYSTEM - KENNY

Posted on May 13, 2015 7:32 PM

Speaking on Private Members Business in the Dáil Before I was re-elected to the Dail in February 2011, I was a Dublin Councillor for over 30 years. A lot of what went on in the Dublin Councils in the 1980's and early 1990's and which was later reported on by the Mahon Tribunal, was caused by greed, corruption and unregulated lobbying which lead to unsafe planning decisions. I spoke in the first Dail debate on the Mahon Report when it was published. It was of special interest to me as the Baldoyle, Cloghran/Cargobridge, and Drumnigh/Portmarnock Mahon Report modules referred...

Posted on May 12, 2015 6:54 PM

Speaking during a Topical Issue Debate Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny has called for a grant-aided scheme to aid the removal of harmful piping from the public water supply. "It has been stated that forty-two public water supplies in Ireland tested in the latest Environmental Protection Agency inspections had lead levels that exceeded safety thresholds that came into effect in December last year; Dublin city alone was known to have several thousand homes still with internal lead pipes and that situation is replicated across the country. Ireland is not alone in regard to having legacy issues with lead...

"The new legislation will go a long way in improving the rights of workers who seek to negotiate pay and conditions on a collective basis when the employer refuses to engage with the workers. We have seen this most recently with the Dunnes Stores workers, who have effectively been ignored by the Dunnes management." "I have also heard at first hand stories from Dunnes Stores workers who have been victimised for taking...

Speaking on the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2014 I am pleased to be able to speak on this important legislation concerning terrorist offences as a member of the Oireachtas Justice Committee. The Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Bill is a significant piece of legislation, with two primary objectives, namely, amending the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Act 2005 in order to give effect to EU Directives agreed under the Lisbon Treaty and secondly, the Bill will allow Ireland to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism. The Bill creates three new offences in relation...
