Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed the announcement by Minister Alan Kelly that €16.7m has been made available for housing investments in the Dublin region.

"The funding will be used across a range of housing schemes including 234 additional housing units available for homeless families who need them, and over €6.1m will be spent on private houses where older people are living with a disability. Further funding of €1.5m will be spent on extensions to address problems with overcrowding in local authority houses."

"As well as the issues of vacant units and housing adaptations being addressed, €1.3m will be spent on the retrofitting of local authority homes to improve energy efficiency in the Dublin region, with further funding to come in this particular area."

"This efficiency funding will result in warmer homes and lower energy bills for local authority tenants. This particular allocation of funding is part of the programme to sustain and create jobs while making a significant contribution to Ireland's carbon emissions targets for 2020."

"I am particularly pleased that houses that have been vacant will be returned to use - it is not acceptable that there are public housing units boarded up when there is a housing crisis across Dublin. I am also very pleased that funding will be available to older people and disabled people who need to modify their home and thereby increase their quality of life, allowing them to remain at home and living within their own community."
