KENNY CALLS ON BANKS REPOSSESSING "BUY TO LET" PROPERTIES TO ALLOW TENANTS TO REMAIN IN SITU

Speaking on Private Members Business I believe that the Government does understand the problems that people are facing in terms of housing - from people living with the threat and the reality of homelessness to young families who cannot find affordable properties. The Housing challenge is significant, the Construction 2020 target of tripling annual housing output over the next 6 years and the Housing Agency estimates of some 35,000 additional residential properties being required over the next 5 years to meet social housing need, show the scale of the challenge before us. While it's important to recognise the issues, I...

KENNY WELCOMES LEGISLATION EXEMPTING LOCAL SPORTS CLUBS FROM COMMERCIAL RATES ON NON-PROFIT BUILDINGS

Posted on September 24, 2014 2:59 PM

Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed the announcement that the Government has agreed to proceed with legislation to exempt local sports clubs from paying commercial rates on the non-profit parts of their building. "This is something that has been discussed on an ongoing basis among Labour Party public representatives and with Labour Party Ministers, and I am very pleased at this development. DUBLIN ARRAY UNLIKELY IN THE NEAR FUTURE - KENNY

Posted on September 16, 2014 3:15 PM

Labour TD Sean Kenny has said that the much criticised Dublin Array will not be going ahead any time soon. This project, like other proposed offshore renewable energy plans, is currently paused in the absence of a number of enabling factors, including a Market Support Tariff and an Inter-Governmental Agreement on the exports of renewable energy, within the EU's 2020 timeframe, which, in the case of the UK, stalled last...

Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Justice Committee has welcomed confirmation by the Minister for Justice that the seperation unit at Mountjoy Prison was closed this past Friday. "I am very pleased to have confirmation from the Minister for Justice that this unit has finally closed. I was very concerned to read a report on Mountjoy Prison written in July by the Inspector of Prisons, Judge Michael Reilly, that emphasised the dreadful state of the Separation Unit. The report was very clear that this unit suffered from bad practices, as well as being overcrowded, and had...

Posted on September 4, 2014 3:28 PM

Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed a further drop in Live Register figures, which show a steady decline in unemployment since early 2012. "The latest CSO figures indicate unemployment continues to fall with the rate dropping to 11.2% in August, down from 12.7% on the same month last year. Last August, there was 10,227 people on the Live Register in my own area of Dublin North East, this has now dropped by 8.3% to 9,378 people." "While the national economy is showing signs of recovery, we must see this translating into more jobs, particularly in the northside of Dublin. Badly...
