Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed a further drop in Live Register figures, which show a steady decline in unemployment since early 2012.

"The latest CSO figures indicate unemployment continues to fall with the rate dropping to 11.2% in August, down from 12.7% on the same month last year. Last August, there was 10,227 people on the Live Register in my own area of Dublin North East, this has now dropped by 8.3% to 9,378 people."

"While the national economy is showing signs of recovery, we must see this translating into more jobs, particularly in the northside of Dublin. Badly affected from the recession, further action is needed to build on the recent job wins and young jobseekers must be encouraged to take up the many career-focused training schemes on offer. We also need to make sure that there are jobs on offer to those who are ready and able to take them up, and jobs for people who have already completed training schemes."

"Labour activation programmes like JobsPlus, JobBridge and Springboard are playing a pivotal role in this, and the continuing fall in the Live Register is testament to their success. The economy is recovering, but a huge job of work remains to ensure that this prosperity is experienced in every home across Ireland."
