Dublin Bay North Labour Party T.D., Seán Kenny, has said that Labour in Government is committed to ending long-term homelessness, and has saluted Minister Jan O'Sullivan for setting 2016 as the target date for ending it. "Achieving this hugely important goal in the year that marks the centenary of the 1916 Rising is something everyone should support. Homelessness is an affront to every value that we assign to the concept of citizenship. In a real republic there is an onus on us all to ensure that all citizens have a place they can call home. LABOUR TD KENNY SAYS DEBT DEAL IS GIANT STEP FORWARD FOR IRELAND

Posted on February 14, 2013 2:13 PM

I warmly welcome the deal on the IBRC promissory notes as a commitment delivered on, and another step on the road to economic recovery. It is a giant step forward for Ireland. As we all know, IBRC was formerly the Anglo Irish Bank and also the Irish Nationwide Building Society. It can perhaps be said that this is the deal that Ireland should always have secured when it emerged that the situation in Anglo Irish Bank was so serious. The significance of this deal and the work that has gone into securing it really cannot be underestimated. The deal will...

LABOUR TD KENNY HIGHLIGHTS ARCHBISHOP McQUAID'S MAGDALENE LAUNDRIES STEWARDSHIP AND SAYS APOLOGY FOR MAGDALENES REQUIRED

Posted on February 14, 2013 10:31 AM

It has been said that people in Ireland today under the age of 40 may be unaware of what Irish society and culture was really like during the era after Independence and up to the 1970's when what is described in the McAleese report mainly happened. The writer and journalist John Cooney wrote a book in 1999 with the title "John Charles McQuaid Ruler of Catholic Ireland". Cooney refers to Magdalene laundries in the Archdiocese of Dublin in page 152 of his book and I quote "Worse even than the austere regime which applied in industrial schools such as Artane...

"As a member of the Dail's Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport, I am delighted to hear this news. KENNY CALLS FOR GREATER TRANSPARENCY IN LOTTERY GRANT DISBURSEMENT

Posted on February 6, 2013 5:21 PM

The National Lottery Act of 1986 provides the legislative basis for the National Lottery. The current National Lottery licence, which is held by An Post National Lottery Company, is due to expire in 2013. I would point out that the National Lottery is not, in my view, being sold. The licence to operate the National Lottery is being sold, which will generate revenue for the State. This is not the same as selling the National Lottery. Obviously, there will be a competition for the award of the next licence and that the successful bidder for the new licence will be...
