Dublin North East Labour TD and Oireachtas Transport Committee member, Seán Kenny, today welcomed the provision of almost €23 million in funding for the National Transport Authority for Dublin City Council under the Sustainable Transport Investment Programme and just over €4 million in the Fingal Council area.

"As a member of the Dail's Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport, I am delighted to hear this news. The spending of this funding will be driven by common sense, and rather than trying to tackle expensive large projects, it will instead prioritise small projects on road across Dublin city."

"On Station Road in Raheny, there will be an Upgrade of the pedestrian crossing serving Raheny DART Station. Tactile paving will be added here for those with sight difficulties, as well as improved dished kerbs and modern push button units. A small amount of new cycle parking will also be provided."

"The Sutton 2 Sandycove project will take a further step forward from the Bull Road to the Causeway Road in Clontarf. Complete public consultation, detailed design, tender and construction will commence to build this "missing link" between Bull Road and Causeway Road. Work will also be done in Fingal on extending the Sutton 2 Sandycove project. Preliminary design and planning stages of a cycle route on the R106 between Sutton and Malahide, including addressing requirements for Special Protection Areas and Special Areas of Conservation north of Baldoyle will be examined."

"An project from 2012 will also be completed, which will provide a pedestrian and cycle link for North Fringe residents to Clare Hall and Malahide Rd QBC. As well as that, design and construction of a bus bay at Coolock Lane will go ahead. This will facilitate bus route changes that create a cross city route, eliminating the need for a City Centre terminus."

"Meanwhile in Howth, there will be footpath improvements on Carrickbrack Road, Howth, including the relocation of bus stop to improve safety at St. Fintan's National School and also work will be done on footpath accessibility in Howth Village. Dishing of footpaths will be put in place and and minor improvement works along the existing footpath network on Main Street, Abbey Street and Harbour Rd."

"I am pleased that even during these tough economic times, the National Transport Authority will be able to carry out important local improvements, and I want to pay tribute to Minister Alan Kelly at the Department of Transport for ensuring smaller projects like these are not forgotten about."
