Local TD for Darndale and Coolock and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee Sean Kenny has said he deplores the hit-and-run accident last night that has left a six year old girl in a serious condition.

"I am told that she was struck by a dark coloured van, that might have been dark green in colour, around 7.20pm last night at a pedestrian crossing on the Malahide Road in Coolock."

"I want extend my best wishes to the young girl and her family and I hope very much that will recover quickly and fully from her injuries."

"The van that hit her failed to remain at the scene and drove off towards the city, which is shocking. I hope the driver is identified and apprehended as soon as possible and I would call on residents who may have information to assist the Gardai with their enquiries to track the driver down."

"Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Coolock Garda Station on 01 6664200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
