Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport Sean Kenny has welcomed the announcement by Aer Lingus of its increased fleet of transatlantic aircraft, extra services and new services to San Francisco in the United States and Toronto in Canada.

"The new route to San Francisco is a major component in the growth plan for Aer Lingus and is a great development for the Irish economy, and is especially welcome as it is a direct tie to Silicon Valley that our own tech sector in Ireland can take advantage of. This will help to cement Ireland's place in Europe as the European counterpart of Silicon Valley. It is also welcome news that there will be almost a doubling of frequency on services from Shannon to Boston and New York, which will help the economy of the west of Ireland."

"As well as the new and increased flights, people flying with Aer Lingus from different cities across the UK and Europe will be served with a large variety of connections with Aer Lingus partners, that will enable journeys to be made to several cities on the West Coast of the US."

"Passengers flying on Aer Lingus flights are also well looked after. Passengers on transatlantic flights benefit from pre-clearance U.S. immigration and customs at Dublin and Shannon airports as well as high-speed internet, excellent in-flight entertainment, and a decent selection of food. All of these are very important for an airline to provide, as they ensure comfort and quality of service on long-haul trips."
