Sean Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, has welcomed the announcement by Dublin Bus and An Garda Síochána of "Operation Open City", which runs in the Dublin region from December 8th to 24th. It features enhanced transport information, extra night time Public Transport and targeted Garda assistance for the transport system.

"The plan will run up until Christmas Eve and the aim of the operation is to facilitate the movement of public transport and minimise traffic disruption to the general public through high visibility and enforcement activity. The plan is in its second year and has replaced the well known "Operation Freeflow" and is being run in conjunction with local authorities and traders associations."

"Gardaí will be patrolling all the major arterial roads as well as link roads during main commuter hours. There will also be particular focus on traffic management issues around car parks and major shopping centres. Other areas for particular attention during the operation include Luas tracks, bus lanes and will see a Garda presence on late night LUAS and Nite-Link services."

"I am pleased to see this undertaking being announced and in fact I think it is something that should be in place the entire year round, as the increased focus on traffic in Dublin by the authorities means the city is able to move people around more efficiently."
