Dublin Bay North Labour TD, Sean Kenny, today called on Health Minister James Reilly to make a statement to allay public concerns, particularly among older men, regarding the current controversy surrounding prostate cancer testing at Blanchardstown Hospital.

"It has been found that higher readings resulted from use of Siemens analysers compared to the World Health Standard. Beaumont Hospital does not use Siemens analysers when conducting prostate cancer testing.

"I will nonetheless be tabling a Parliamentary Question on the issue of PSA testing with Minister Reilly when the Dáil resumes next week.

"The incidents in Blanchardstown Hospital, where 162 individual patients were advised that re-testing was required, may be considered to be of low clinical risk. However, to address any potential risk, I believe that the Health Minister must make a statement on the matter."
