Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Seán Kenny, has welcomed the announcement by Groupon that it has launched a recruitment campaign for over 20 new full-time positions at its Dublin operation.

"I warmly welcome the news that Groupon are on a recruitment drive for experienced software engineers, computer programmers, data scientists and computational marketers, as well as for new college graduates in related disciplines, skills I know that Irish tech workers have.

With plans to move to new offices in Dublin city centre as part of the expansion plan, the company already employs about a dozen people in Dublin. The new positions will be filled by the end of the year and Groupon expects to further increase their investment in the months to come.

A key part of this Governments plans for jobs and growth is our ambition to make Ireland the internet capital of Europe. Groupon is a global brand name and a highly innovative company operating in a cutting edge part of online commerce. Today's announcement that it is adding to the long list of global giants in this sector in establishing an operation and recruiting 20 people in Dublin confirms that we are making major progress in this area.

The Government is determined to accelerate the progress we have made with online companies to create the jobs we need and I completely support it in its drive to get our people back to work."
