Dublin Bay North Labour TD Seán Kenny today welcomed the news that the Numismatic Advisory Committee of the Central Bank has recommended that a commemorative coin to mark the 1000th anniversary of the death of Brian Ború at the Battle of Clontarf should be considered.

"My colleague Michael McNamara TD has been working on this proposal, as Brian Ború was born in his province of Munster, in Killaloe, County Clare.
Obviously as Brian Ború met his end in Clontarf which is one of the local areas I represent, I am very interested in this proposal and think a commemorative coin would be an excellent idea, as would commemorative events at Clontarf next year that mark the Battle of Clontarf in 1014."

"I am hopeful that the Minister for Finance will take a positive view of the idea, which would see a small gold goin with a run of about 10,000, weighing half a gramme."
