Seán Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD and member of the Oireachtas Communications Committee, has welcomed the announcement that Dropbox is to establish an International Operation Centre in Dublin.

"Dropbox is a free service that allows its users to easily access and share documents, photos and videos from anywhere in the world. I understand that this is Dropbox's first move outside of the United States, which underscores how attractive Ireland is for digital technology companies to do business here, and I want to pay tribute to IDA Ireland for their role in making this move happen.

"The arrival of a top cloud company like Dropbox indicates Ireland's growing capacity to usher in the next generation of internet companies. Ireland has many advantages to offer international companies, including our young, passionate and talented workforce, all of which will be a great asset to Dropbox as they make their new home in Dublin.

"A key part of the Government's plans for jobs and growth is to target high growth emerging companies to locate operations in Ireland. The strategy is that Ireland will than play a crucial role in the company's growth, and receive the benefits in terms of jobs and investment as the company expands. I believe that the new office will strengthen Dropbox's ability to provide technical support to the millions of Dropbox users worldwide.

"Dropbox is one of the best known brands in the digital world today. Dropbox's file sharing service is used worldwide by millions of customers - it is one of the leading players in the cloud computing space. Dropbox's decision to locate in Dublin further adds to the existing cluster of world-class internet brands that have chosen Ireland as a location for their international operations.

"The initial goal of Dropbox's Dublin office is to hire for a variety of positions, including multi-lingual sales teams, account management and user operations staff, all of which will provide targeted support to Dropbox users in Europe. With over 100 million users worldwide, over one-third of them in the European region alone, Dropbox's new office opening will support the company's continuing growth and expansion.

"I wish Dropbox every success with this new centre and offer them the continued support of the Irish Government as the company continues to develop here."
