Dublin North East Labour TD Sean Kenny welcomed Dublin City Council's decision last week to seek additional information for the Clongriffin Mosque planning application submitted to Dublin City Council by Dublin Welfare Society Limited (ref 3325/12) last autumn.

"Dublin City Council planners have requested further information on grounds that include the lack of sufficient on and off street car parking, coach parking spaces, excessive boundary wall heights, the need for more in depth analysis of traffic volumes generated by the development, and insufficient event management detail."

"In my submission to Dublin City Council regarding the planning application I pointed out that the inclusion of only 192 car parking spaces was entirely inadequate for a 600 people capacity conference centre. There is already a shortage of car parking spaces in Clongriffin as the 2002 Dublin City Council planning permission provided just one car parking space for each residential unit. This has led to vehicles parking on footpaths and open spaces particularly for visitors to Clongriffin."

"I also pointed out that the new planning application includes retail units, including crèche, bookshop, library, etc when there is a vast amount of empty retail units nearby on Main Street, Clongriffin."

"I am asking Dublin City Council planners to use this opportunity to integrate the new development with the existing retail, residential, and access footprint in Clongriffin."
