Dublin Bay North Labour Party T.D. Sean Kenny, has welcomed the inclusion of Darndale in €11.25 million in funding to area based strategies to eradicate child poverty based on the successful 'Young Ballymun' model.

"The Programme for Government recognises how important it is to break the cycle of child poverty. This will be done through area based programmes drawing on best international practice and services which already exist to tackle all aspects of child poverty. These strategies target different age groups and issues across the life cycle, from pre-birth right through to adulthood."

"The Programme for Government refers to a roll-out of this model in up to ten of Ireland's most disadvantaged communities. The Budget commits €2.5 million in funding in 2013 for an initial three locations with additional expenditure of €4 million in 2014 and €4.75 million in 2015 - to be co-funded by philanthropic partners."

"I welcome the inclusion of Darndale, where former Labour Education Minister Niamh Bhreathnach introduced the Breaking the Cycle scheme for the two Darndale primary schools in 1995 when I also then represented Darndale as a Labour TD. I am pleased, that through Minister Joan Burton, the Labour Party is continuing to give priority to the Darndale area."

"High quality integrated children's services from birth onwards play a significant role in improving life outcomes for children, young people and families. They also contribute to major national exchequer savings by preventing or tackling early problems like child behavioural issues and educational underachievement - that if left too late, are costly and resistant to successful resolution."
