Dublin North East Labour TD, Sean Kenny, today stated that he was in favour of the proposed Clongriffin Islamic Mosque development but had reservations concerning some aspects of the planning application submitted to Dublin City Council by Dublin Welfare Society Limited (ref 3325/12).

"The inclusion of only 192 car parking spaces in entirely inadequate for a 600 people capacity conference centre. There is already a shortage of car parking spaces in Clongriffin as the 2002 Dublin City Council planning permission provided just one car parking space for each residential unit. This has led to vehicles parking on footpaths and open spaces particularly for visitors to Clongriffin" he warned.

"I fail to see why the new planning application includes retail units, including crèche, bookshop, library, etc when there is a vast amount of empty retail units nearby on Main Street, Clongriffin" he added.

"I am calling on Dublin City Council planners to use this opportunity to integrate the new development with the existing retail, residential, and access footprint in Clongriffin" he concluded.
