The Labour Party TD for Dublin North East, Seán Kenny, has welcomed the reversal of the minimum wage cut that was implemented by the Fianna Fáil / Green government in the last budget.

"I am delighted to see the reversal of the mean-spirited cut in the minimum wage from €7.65 to €8.65. This means that the €40 a week that was taken from workers has been restored to them.

I am proud that the Labour Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton brought this issue into the Dáil as soon as possible, in order to restore fairness in the labour market. The previous government was not acting in the interests of fairness and the minimum wage cut they forced on workers was a clear sign of that", Deputy Kenny said.

"With this cut reversed, the new government can move on with making Ireland a better and fairer place, despite the present economic difficulties facing us", Deputy Kenny continued. "Cutting the wages of those at the bottom of the labour market will not lead to growth or increased employment - it will lead to further stagnation in the economy and more inequality of income", he added.
