ALMOST HALF A BILLION EURO FOR SCHOOL BUILDING IN DUBLIN BETWEEN 2011 & 2015 - KENNY

Dublin Bay North Labour TD Seán Kenny has said almost half a billion Euro was spent on school building projects in Dublin between 2011 and 2015.

Over €313,400,581was provided for primary schools between 2011 and 2015, which includes €28,055,584 under the Summer Works Scheme. It also includes funding that saw the building in 2012 of St. Michael's House Special School in Raheny and the getting underway this year of St Francis of Assissi in Belmayne. There was also a large extension built in 2012 at Scoil Eoin Baisde in Clontarf. €176,532,786 was provided for post-primary schools in Dublin and this includes €23,720,387 under the Summer Works Scheme, of which a substantial portion was provided for the upkeep and maintenance of schools in Dublin Bay North.

"It is vitally important that the country maintains its educational facilities at primary level, in order to accommodate the increasing numbers of in the coming years. We have to plan ahead for this, and this funding was a part of that planning."

"A five year plan Schools Capital Programme was unveiled by the Government in 2011 and the rolling out of this funding is being overseen by Minister for Education Jan O'Sullivan and was previously over seen by Ruairi Quinn TD when he was Minister for Education. A €100 million loan was provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and was very valuable in helping to fund this investment."
