Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny has said that Men's Health Week, which runs from Monday, 15th June and finishes on Father's Day, Sunday, 21st June is a chance for men to become more aware of health issues that affect them.

Deputy Kenny commented: "Men are not known to be the best at going to the doctor when something is troubling them, instead leaving it until the last possible minute. Men can also be reluctant to talk about their health and this can often result in medical issues being left too late to be treated."

"Poor lifestyles are responsible for a high proportion of chronic diseases and this is down to poor exercise, poor diet, and of course the obvious causes such as excess drinking of alcohol and of course smoking."

"A number of events are taking place throughout the country to mark Men's Health Week, see http://www.mhfi.org/mhw2015events.pdf for more information of events in your locality and the Men's Health Week 2015 site on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MensHealthWeek) is also live."

"Men in Ireland die on average, almost four and a half years younger than women and this high level of premature mortality amongst men in Ireland is often a result of said poor lifestyles choices. I think Men's Health Week is a great opportunity for men to review how they might lead a healthier lifestyle."
