Sean Kenny, the local Labour TD for Kilbarrack/Raheny area and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport has said that issues with the green space on the Swansnest/Grange Park side of Kilbarrack DART Station need to be dealt with in conjunction with residents and local groups.

"In 2014 the residents attended meetings in relation to the landscaping of this green space where funding was approved and work was to commence in conjunction with Northside Partnership - however to date, this has not happened. I have been contacted over the last few weeks by the residents and the Grange Park Environment Committee in relation to the proposed erection of railings at Kilbarrack Station at the Swansnest/Grange Park side. Residents recently attended a Dublin City Council Forum meeting where they were informed that railings of approximately 3 feet in height will be erected along the exit/entrance path into the station and they are annoyed that this was decided without any consultation."

"Residents are concerned about this decision, which will do nothing to combat the dumping issues at this site. It will enclose the path and do nothing to stop anti-social behaviour with youths gathering behind the proposed railing. Residents are also very concerned that this will cause safety issues entering and exiting the station especially late at night. Many residents use the desired line route as it is more open and brighter. During wet weather the existing path often floods as the dry shore is not effective and residents must walk along the raised area, a railing will prevent this. For many years the residents have requested a paved path but were refused, apparently due to funding issues, and yet now there is funding to erect railings."

"I have contacted Dublin City Council to seek clarification on all of these matters and I believe they need to respond to the concerns of residents as a matter of urgency and to engage in the works as agreed with residents - Dublin City Council is supposed to serve residents in communities, not go around them."
