Following recent local rumours, local Kilbarrack TD and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee Sean Kenny has stated that Kilbarrack DART station will not become unmanned and that such a plan has never been considered.

"Irish Rail has informed me categorically that Kilbarrack DART station will remain a manned station, and there is no basis for any rumours to the contrary and that such an idea has never been under consideration. However, Irish Rail has also told me that the station does not always have a person on duty during the quieter times of the day."

"Irish Rail has also said that when the station is unmanned, persons travelling on a free travel pass using the Dart can pass through the barriers, which will be open, and present their pass at their destination without any issue."

"I also raised a number of other issues with Irish Rail regarding Kilbarrack DART station, including trespass across the railway tracks. This matter has been raised with Gardaí, local council representatives and residents and I understand that CCTV is being installed at Kilbarrack specifically to deal with the trespass issue and that the tracks will be monitored. Local schools will also be visited to talk to local pupils and their parents about the dangers of trespassing on railways tracks."

"I have also asked Irish Rail about issues that wheelchair users have with Kilbarrack and I have been told that the policy that Irish Rail have for wheelchair users is that giving notice of 24 hour will guarantee assistance and that this has been discussed and approved by the Irish Wheelchair Association and other representative bodies. That said, Irish Rail do realise that this can be quite impractical and therefore they have told me that they will work to ensure that there will staff at all times within a group of stations to allow for a quick response should assistance be required."

"Irish Rail also mentioned that in relation to recent anti-social behaviour at Bayside DART station that an investigation is ongoing and that definite lines of enquiry are being pursued by the Gardaí, and that additional security coverage between Howth Junction & Howth for a period that will include the Easter holidays."
