Labour TD for Howth and Dublin Bay North Sean Kenny has welcomed the granting of funding for the Howth Midsummer Literary & Arts Festival.

"This funding is part of a larger budget administered by Fáilte Ireland for local festivals and events to boost tourism activity throughout the country during 2015. The average value of each grant is €3,000 each, which is the value of the grant awarded to the Howth Midsummer Literary & Arts Festival."

"The funding announced today will give Howth an additional reason to bring in tourists from Dublin, the wider Dublin area as well as from the rest of Ireland, not to mention tourists from outside of Ireland. Howth is already well known to tourists and is very popular and this festival will continue to add to that."

"I'm also pleased that funding has been granted to two other festivals that will be of interest to our local communities - the Flavours of Fingal Festival has also been awarded €3,000 and the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival has been awarded €5,000, the larger amount reflecting the festival being a Dublin wide one."

"I really am pleased with this funding - the importance of festivals for Ireland should not be underestimated. These events will enhance the tourism calendar in local communities add to our ability to grow overseas visitors and revenue, which is of vital importance to our local economy."
