Sean Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour TD who was also elected for Portmarnock in the 2011 General Election, has said that the process of obtaining water quality results must be faster and more transparent to the public.

"Advisory notices have been placed on beaches in the Dublin area over concerns about bathing water quality following the weekend's wet weather. Fingal County Council has advised the public not to swim at the Velvet Strand beach, The Burrow beach and Claremont beach."

"I understand that Fingal County Council have taken samples of water from the beaches for testing yesterday and I understand that the results were expected between 5pm and 7pm today. However, the results of these tests need to be made available much faster, as today is a day when people could decide to go the beach and swim."

"I believe that local communities deserve to have an efficient and transparent water testing system at their local beaches and that test results should be obtained overnight, in the interests of community service and of public health. Fingal County Council needs to work harder on achieving this and I would urge them to come up with a plan that ensures that water tests are processed faster."
