Dublin Labour TD Sean Kenny, a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, has again repeated calls for greater Luas safety for pedestrians in locations close to Luas stops.

"I am very concerned that yet again, a fatality has occurred in the vicinity of a Luas stop. Given that both Luas lines run through areas of dense human traffic, its important that city and transport authorities step up efforts to ensure crossings are made safer."

"Given that a fatality involving a pedestrian on the Luas line on Abbey Street earlier this year, it is clear that much more needs to be done."

"As I have said previously, Dublin can only function as a safe city if the various authorities and agencies step up and take decisive action. Pedestrians clearly have a role to play in this and I believe a 'walk safety' campaign must be rolled out to raise awareness of the dangers which exist."
