Dublin Bay North Labour TD has said that the Government's commitment to sport and local communities was underpinned today with grants made of grants of over a quarter of a million Euro across the Dublin Bay North area.

"Sports clubs and organisations are the lifeblood of our communities. I'm delighted to be able to show how much the Government values their role and contribution. Thanks to their largely voluntary work, these clubs and organisations are able to get more people to be more active, more often, and to encourage involvement in community life."

"In Howth, the Sailing & Boating Club and the Yacht Club have received funding. Soccer clubs across the constituency getting funding are Howth Celtic AFC, Kilbarrack United FC and Mid Sutton FC, as well as St. Malachys FC in Edenmore. Suttonians Hockey Club is also getting funding. Beann Eadair CLG in Howth, Naomh Barrog GAA Club in Kilbarrack and An Cumann Parnell CLG in Coolock and Trinity Gaels GAA Club in Donaghmede are GAA clubs getting funding. Trinity Boys Amateur Boxing Club, also in Donaghmede is getting funding also. Darndale Park, Belcamp Park, Kilmore West Recreation Centre, and Roseglen in Kilbarrack are facilities in receipt of funding also, and Clontarf is also included in the funding grant also, with Clontarf Tennis Club and Clontarf Boat Club getting funding."

"The Sports Capital Programme is the Government's main vehicle for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment. As well as sporting clubs, some funding has also been granted for community facilities and spaces. The facilities being funded today range from small-scale equipment grants to more significant work needed in various facilities."

"Much of this funding has been allocated with the assistance of national governing bodies or local authorities. In the context of the tight budgetary situation, this level of funding shows a phenomenal commitment to sport and to local communities."
