Howth TD Sean Kenny has paid tribute to the Howth Coast Guard following their rescue of two swimmers off the coast of Howth on Thursday evening.

"I understand that the men had been swimming when they got overwhelmed by strong currents just before 7pm. They managed to climb onto some rocks at a cliff and called out for help. A passerby raised the alarm and the Coast Guard were on the scene within minutes and scaled the cliff and brought the two men to safety. They were checked out by medics but were found to be in good health although they were a bit shaken."

"I want to pay tribute to the bravery and service of the Howth Coast Guard who save many lives and keep people safe in Howth, whether they are Dubliners or from further afield. They put the concerns of others above their own and do so willingly."

"I also want to caution people to take care of where they go swimming and to watch out for dangerous currents - not everywhere is safe to swim in and people should be careful. I would suggest that people only swim when they know it is safe to do so and never swim in areas that have warning signs."
