Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed the news that the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., has announced a second round of structural improvements that schools across Dublin Bay North will be able to avail of this summer.

"Around €35 million is being provided by the Department of Education and Skills under the second round of funding for the Summer Works Scheme 2014. The successful schools will receive money to improve and upgrade existing school buildings. This second round of funding will allow schools to carry out works to roofing and also to toilet facilities and gas systems."

"St David's National School on Kilmore Road in Artane is getting work done on its gas systems, while Chanel College in Coolock Village on the Malahide Road, Dominican College on Griffith Ave, Grange Community College and Holy Trinity Senior National School on Grange Road, Donaghmede, Dublin 13, as well as Scoil Naisúnta Na Lanai Glasa on Seafield Avenue in Clontarf and Scoil Naisúnta Ide Cailini on Kilmore Road West in Artane, are getting roofing work done that I understood is much needed in all of these schools."

"Holy Faith Secondary School in Clontarf, St Eithne's Senior Girls National School and St. Monica's National School, both in Edenmore, and Scoil Eoin in Greendale are all getting works done to their toilet facilities, which I also understand is much needed work."

"Combined with the first round of works, which were announced last March, the Summer Works Scheme covers 772 schools across the country, costing €71 million, delivering 5000 local jobs and benefitting over 200,000 students. It may seem like a limited amount of work, but taken together, in actual fact this work is of great significance and represents a very significant amount of funding. I warmly welcome the funding, which will see more schools benefit from work that needs to be done to keep the schools operating and serving the children and young people in our local communities."
