Dublin Nay North Labour TD, Seán Kenny, today called on the newly appointed Pyrite Resolution Board to step in and help to resolve the difficulties a number of local residents are having.

"Local residents are attempting to persuade the developer Stanley Holdings and their insurance company Premier Guarantee to deal positively with the presence of pyrite, which has already been identified, in the Belmayne estate at Balgriffin in North Dublin. The pyrite manifests itself in houses and apartment with cracks appearing in walls, doors and windows which become difficult to open and close, and subsidence in floors."

"A real problem for some homeowners is the requirement by insurance company Premier Guarantee that a homeowner must pay a non-refundable €3,000 cost for tests to establish the presence of pyrite. Many homeowners already in negative equity and suffering financial hardship simply cannot stump up this kind of money while the condition of their property deteriorates further. I would call on the Pyrite Resolution Board to persuade Stanley Holdings and Premier Guarantee to cover the cost of tests."

"There is also evidence of the presence of pyrite in the voluntary housing in Belmayne which is managed by Cluid Housing Association. A Cluid Housing tenant, and constituent, has contacted me to say that she is waiting several months for Cluid to carry out an inspection.".

"In conclusion I would call on the Pyrite Resolution Board to intervene and stop the foot dragging by Stanley Holdings and Cluid Housing and get them to deal with these issues."
