Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee Sean Kenny has welcomed the start of the consultation process for a Bus Rapid Transit system in Dublin.

"There are two cross-city routes being proposed - the first is in my own constituency of Clongriffin to Tallaght, the second is from Blanchardstown to UCD, and there is a third route from Swords to the City Centre."

"I think these are excellent proposals and complement the earlier Metro North and Metro West plans. While they would operate in a system very similar to the Metro or Luas, they are also more effective than extending Luas lines out to the suburbs, as far less preparation work or tunnel work would be needed."

"I have been told authoritatively that Dublin Bus will be the service provider of the proposed new service, which I would also welcome. Public transport services benefitting the community should be run by public bodies for the benefit of the community."

"Details of these proposals can be found at www.nationaltransport.ie and there is also a facility on the website where people can make a response to the proposals. There are also locations where proposals can be viewed in person. These locations are the Northside Civic Centre on Bunratty Road in Coolock, the Fingal County Council Civic Offices in Swords and also in Blanchardstown, the Dublin City Council Civic on Wood Quay, the UCD Main Restaurant Building in Belfield, and South Dublin County Council Civic Offices in Tallaght, until March 14th."
