Dublin Bay North Labour TD and Oireachtas Transport Committee member Sean Kenny has welcomed the news from Irish Rail that it is working on the problems that train users are having with the purchase of child tickets.

"There has been a long standing issue with Irish Rail ticket vending machines, which did not allow customers to purchase child tickets from them. This has been a source of inconvenience for many, particularly when train stations do not have staff on duty."

"Irish Rail have informed me that the ticket vending machines have been unable to provide child tickets, but that work is underway with the providers of the ticket vending machines to ensure that child tickets can be provided in the second quarter of 2014."

"This is certainly welcome news, but I believe Irish Rail need to announce this, as many people have raised the issue with me - it is obviously a problem for people, and they need to know that the issue is not only one Irish Rail are aware of, but that the issue is going to be resolved."
