Sean Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, has welcomed the announcement that a senior counsel is to review the Fr. Molloy case.

"A lot of claims have been made as to how Fr. Molloy died and I think it is essential that as much information about the case as possible is made public. That said, I understand that it is not possible to have the Report of the Garda Serious Crime Review Team published, firstly because internal Garda reports are not published and also because the report contains unsubstantiated allegations against named persons."

"I am pleased that the Minister for Justice has informed the Cabinet that he is taking steps to appoint a Senior Counsel to conduct an independent examination of the Report of the Serious Crime Review Team into this case, and I think it is in the public interest to do so."

"The Senior Counsel will be asked to prepare a report which can be put into the public domain on any issues of public interest which may arise from the report and also to identify whether there are matters of public concern arising from this examination and whether any form of further inquiry, aside from the criminal investigation, would have a reasonable prospect of establishing the truth."
