Dublin Bay North and Howth Labour TD, Seán Kenny, welcomed news from Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, that Ireland will now have full market access to China for our salmon exports.

"This is fantastic news for Ireland's many seafood companies who are always looking to expand their global footprint. The announcement today marks the conclusion of intensive efforts by Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore to secure vital access a multi-million market which China has to offer. Credit must also be paid to the work of the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) and our Irish Embassy in Beijing, which worked so hard to bring this deal to fruition."

"The agreement reached is a measure of the international confidence in our seafood quality controls, and can only further consolidate Ireland's position as a source of quality foods."

"Irish seafood exports to China have recorded a 75% increase in recent years, growing from €5.7 million in 2010 to €10 million in 2012, so with the addition of salmon being made available, our export figures are sure to increase even more."
