Sean Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport has expressed his delight that Aer Lingus has reinstated its direct flight service to San Francisco from next April.

"I lobbied for this in the 1990's and was delighted when it was first started and very disappointed when it stopped. It is a superb route for our national airline to have as it will enhance and strengthen Irish links to San Francisco and the nearby Silicon Valley where the Irish tech sector has close ties with companies such as Google, Facebook and others that have European bases here and their USA bases in Silocon valley. All of this will further stimulate the development of ideas and the development of new technologies that will be of major economic benefit to Ireland, and to the Irish technology sector."

"Irish technology companies are proving to be world leaders in technology, and are drawing on the international expertise that has been attracted to Dublin, and indeed some Irish technology experts have moved from Ireland to establish themselves in Silicon Valley. The new direct flight service will encourage stronger economic and technological ties with their homeland."

"The strategic 25% shareholding by the State in Aer Lingus is essential for future economic growth that we have mechanisms in place to ensure we retain and expand connectivity into key markets for international companies located in Ireland or those trading with us. The new service to San Francisco demonstrates this extremely well."
