Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD Seán Kenny has said that the National Ambulance Service must consult with Dublin City Council for planning permission for a helipad at Beaumont Hospital.

"The temporary helipad on the site adjacent to Beaumont Hospital was developed by the HSE National Ambulance Service for the emergency transfer of patients to hospitals on the north side of the city. Concerns were raised with regard to the safety standards and planning permission for the helipad."

"I understand that the National Ambulance Service believed that as the helipad was a temporary landing site it did not require planning permission. However, the NAS consulted with Dublin City Council and are now aware that the provision of the helipad does require planning permission. While occasional use in an emergency transfer situation may be deemed as exempt from requiring planning permission, regular use must be considered a serious, material change of use of the lands for which planning permission is required."

"I have been informed that the NAS ended helicopter operations on the site with effect from Sunday, July 7, 2013 and that they will be in discussion with Dublin City Council with regard to helipad facilities for the north city hospitals."

"I also understand that Beaumont Hospital would support a helipad being used for the purposes of providing emergency care at the hospital - but that it takes into consideration the concerns of the residents of Beaumont Woods and meets all safety and planning guidelines."
