Seán Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour T.D., and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, today called on the NRA to rethink its proposals to introduce extra tolling points on the M50 motorway between Ballymun and Finglas; the current point at Blanchardstown; at Parkwest between the N4 and Red Cow; between Firhouse and Ballinteer; and between Sandyford and Carrickmines.

"The provision of an extra tolling point between Ballymun and Finglas would merely transfer capacity from the M50 on to smaller residential roads starting as far back as the Malahide Road and Collins Avenue on the Northside."

"Many motorists use the M50 for journeys to work, including those dropping children to crèches and child minders as well as carers visiting homes. The additional financial burden would be unbearable for these categories."

"The Tánaiste has said this morning that the Minister for Transport has already indicated that this is something the Government is not inclined to support, and I welcome his comments. He also said that motorists are already hard-pressed and commuters are hard-pressed and that the Government will be looking for alternatives to what the NRA are proposing."
