Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Seán Kenny, has said that the new jobs announced by Irish insurance software company, Fineos, show that Irish technology companies are undergoing strong growth in overseas markets, which is also good for the domestic economy.

"Fineos, a leading Irish software company which has been supported by Enterprise Ireland, exports almost all of what it produces, is recruiting 40 positions for its Irish operation, which develops its products for export, and there are also 10 jobs available in software development and technical positions in Poland. A key part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs is supporting the growth of a powerful engine of Irish enterprise. The multinational sector is of course, and will remain crucial to our industrial strategy, but we must also support more strong Irish companies who can lead their sector, compete internationally and create large numbers of jobs.

"The technology sector is an area where we have particular strengths, and in the past two years we have seen an additional 11,000 jobs in this sector. Today's announcement regarding Fineos is very welcome. The Government will be continuing with its Action Plan for Jobs, and I support the Government in this - the Action Plan for Jobs will see more announcements like this and get Ireland back to work. Not only will this help our Irish companies compete internationally, it will also strengthen the economy here at home."
