Dublin Bay North Labour T.D., Seán Kenny, has welcomed details of the allocation of €1 million to support the development of new youth cafés.

"The availability of these funds reinforces the Government's commitment to the extension of quality youth cafés throughout the country and shows that the Government has noted the repeated emphasis young people have placed on the need for safe, alcohol-free recreational facilities."

"Minister Fitzgerald has already provided €700,000 for youth café developments in 2011 and 2012, and I welcome the work she has been doing on this."

"The Youth Café Funding Scheme is concerned with promoting development of new youth cafés around the country, by giving support to local organisations and groups which are providing youth services."

"The achievements already made by many groups in establishing youth cafés are greatly encouraging, especially in terms of the quality of the projects that have been grant aided under the previous Youth Café funding scheme."
