Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee Seán Kenny, has welcomed the news that Aer Lingus is intending to provide an in-flight wireless service.

"I understand that Aer Lingus is preparing to roll out in-cabin wireless internet access and that it will be available from mid-way through next year. Passengers on Aer Lingus's European flights will soon be able to connect their mobile devices while airborne in order to send and receive emails, check Facebook and update Twitter, or browse the web.

"This is something I welcome very much, as it will enable passengers to stay connected while on the move, which will allow greater comfort to those travelling for pleasure, and will allow passengers travelling for business purposes to use their time in the air to conduct business.

"I understand from Aer Lingus that this is being done in direct response to customer feedback, from both business and leisure customers alike. While I understand that pricing for the service has not yet been announced, I hope that it is a small fee, and preferably a flat one to connect their mobile devices.

"Digital connectivity is now taken for granted in the modern world. We have already seen how bus and rail services are moving in this direction and it is good to see air transport also moving in this direction also."
