KENNY WELCOMES ELECTION OF SIOBHAN MULLALLY TO COUNCIL OF EUROPE GROUP AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Seán Kenny, the Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, today welcomed the election of Professor Siobhan Mullally to the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA).

"Professor Mullally was nominated by the Irish Government for election to GRETA following an open and transparent selection process. Professor Mullally is currently Professor of Law at University College Cork and has published extensively in the field of migration, gender and human rights law.

"During her career, Professor Mullally has acted as a consultant and adviser on gender and human rights law for UN bodies, international NGOs and professional bodies including the International Bar Association, International Crisis Group, Open Society, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Irish Aid.

"As well as that, she is a former Chair of the Irish Refugee Council and also currently serves on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Standing NGO Committee on Human Rights. She also has extensive experience of operating at an international level with a diverse range of organisations and is currently a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague.

"Professor Siobhán Mullally has a deeply impressive track record. I know that Professor Mullally will make a significant contribution to the important work of GRETA given her wide range of expertise and experience in the area of human trafficking at national and international level".
