Dublin Bay North TD Seán Kenny welcomed the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, who visited the Media Initiative Collective at Darndale Belcamp Resource Centre to mark its tenth anniversary earlier on 12th September 2012.

"I am delighted that President Higgins is here to mark the tenth anniversary of the Media Initiative Collective, which is an important landmark. The Centre received funding in 2001 to provide a programme for young people at risk. This funding, along with additional funding from FÁS Community Services, was used to provide community based training in music, media, and arts.

"The Media Initiative Collective (MIC) was founded at the newly opened Darndale Village Centre, and the first sixteen participants for the full time course were recruited in April 2002. The MIC Project Media production course now has eighteen places and very high progression rates to further and higher education among graduates."

"Located in Darndale Village Centre, the Darndale Belcamp Resource Centre is a unique and collective combination of integrated community services operating in and around a multi-purpose building located in the heart of the community of Darndale and Belcamp and it is a crucial focal point for the community. It has gone from strength to strength in the ten years it has been here, and I wish to pay tribute to all those who work so hard in making the Centre what it is. I am proud to have supported the Darndale Belcamp Resource Centre over the years and I will continue to do so."
