Dublin Bay North Labour TD and Member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Sean Kenny, has called for improved accident prevention measures
on the Luas Network.

"I am calling for an improved system on the Luas Network in view of the collision the collision this morning where 2 people were taken to hospital and the Luas Red Line has been stopped between Heuston Station and Connolly Station."

"It seems to me that stories of Luas being stopped due to an accident are quite freqent and in particular I recall and the Luas collision in 2009 with a bus in O'Connell Street/Abbey Street where the Luas was found to be at fault."

"Accidents like this, as well as causing harm to people, also mean that disruptions to public transport - this morning's collision means that there is no Luas connection from Connolly Station to Heuston Station this morning. There has to be a way to prevent these kinds of accidents and I call on the transport authorities to examine means of reducing collissions."
