Dublin Bay North Labour Party TD, Sean Kenny, today wished the athletes on the Irish Paralympic Team the best of luck as they begin their journey to the Paralympic Games in London.

"I'd especially like to wish the north Dublin Paralympians every success in London. I am very proud that of all the Irish Paralympians, the flag bearer for Ireland at the Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony will be Harmonstown man Cathal Miller, who will be competing for Ireland in the C5 Track 1km Time Trial and 4km Individual Pursuit and in the C5 Road Time Trial and Road Race.

"We also have Baldoyle woman Nadine Lattimore representing Ireland Dublin North. Nadine will be competing in the F11 Shotput & Discus categories. When she competes at the Olympic Stadium, she will be accompanied by her guide dog Quartz - the first ever guide dog on the Irish Team.

"Finally, we have Ellen Keane of Clontarf, Ireland's youngest Paralympian at just 17. Ellen is a really remarkable athlete as this will be her second Paralympic Games, having competed for Ireland at the age of 13 in Beijing in 2008. She will be representing Ireland in the S9 Swimming categories of 100m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley.

"I think it is important that we all support our Paralympians - these are top calibre athletes who are at the very peak of their abilities. I can't wait to watch the games and follow Cathal, Nadine and Ellen and all the other Irish Paralympians and cheer them on as they compete for Ireland. I know they will do North Dublin and Ireland very proud."
