Dublin North East TD Seán Kenny, welcomed the publication of the Pyrite Report which was the published today (Wednesday).
The report provides a way forward in resolving the serious difficulties for homeowners across the Northside of Dublin and other areas.

"Today's report identified 74 estates, including 12,250 ground floor dwellings, as possibly being affected by pyrite, which is significantly lower than the 100,000 figure previously estimated. The report contains 24 recommendations which will form a roadmap of the next steps needed to resolve pyrite-affected homes."

"The report has recommended that parties involved in the construction industry, banking sector, insurance industry and quarries, be compelled to bear the cost of repairing pyrite-affected homes. It also recommends the establishment of a standardised testing regime. I welcome this very much. The pyrite scandal was an absolute disaster for ordinary people and it cannot be allowed to happen again."

"Homes will be categorised into a traffic light system, where those classed as red will be treated immediately, amber refers to homes which need to be monitored on an ongoing basis, followed by a green category, where houses which don't have reactive pyrite in its hardcore, or it has already been replaced.

"I have worked on this issue for a number of years now and I am pleased to see progress in the form of the report. But that progress means that individuals and groups involved in the various sectors of the economy need to act to support the people affected by pyrite. I am pleased that they will now be compelled to do so and I want them compelled in a timely fashion."

"I hope that this news gives hope to people affected by pyrite and I will be following the implementation of the report closely and dealing with Minister Hogan to get this done."
