Dublin North East TD and Oireachtas Environment Committee member Sean Kenny today welcomed a commitment from the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan, TD to produce a roadmap with regard to the creation of climate change legislation.

"I am pleased that Minister Hogan has said that he would provide a roadmap for the introduction of climate change legislation and I also welcome his pledge to introduce the Heads of the Climate change Bill by the end of 2012. The Minister's commitment is a major step in Ireland's efforts to formulate a policy and legislation to combat climate change."

"The roadmap will provide clear and measurable goals to achieve climate change targets which will enable Ireland to meet its 2020 targets. This timetable will provide the required certainty in relation to the targets and will also influence the overall climate change policy. All of this will lead to publication of the Heads of a Bill by the end of 2012."

"I am looking forward to working with the Minister and his department in the development of Ireland's climate change policy. Both myself and the Oireachtas Environment Committee are very interested in hearing from parties who wish to contribute to the debate on the issue of formulating climate change legislation."
