Dublin North East Labour TD, and member of the Oireachtas Transport Committee, Seán Kenny, has joined with the Irish Taxi Federation in deploring the death of Moses Ayanwole following an assault on him while he was working as a taxi driver at a Dublin city centre taxi rank on Wednesday night.

"Assaults on taxi drivers, who provide a public service, are all too common and there is a need for better Garda security strategy to deal with it" he said.

"It is particularly poignant that this death, involving a taxi driver who was a member of the migrant Nigerian community, occurred a day after the forced resignation of the Mayor of Naas who he made racist comments in the media earlier this week" said the Labour TD.

"All public representatives must condemn racist attitudes and comments that can lead to assaults, sometimes fatal, on members of the migrant community" he concluded.
