Dublin North East Labour TD Sean Kenny today welcomed a proposal by Eirgrid, the operating company responsible for Ireland's electricity supply, for a new power station in Dublin North Fringe.

"Eirgird have written and informed me of the proposal, which is part of the Grid25 Strategy, to upgrade the national power grid. Presently, the North Fringe area is getting its electricity supply from an existing station in Finglas, but the area will require its own station by 2013.

"It is now being proposed by Eirgrid that a new station be built along the N32, between Clare Hall Junction and the M50/M1 interchange, which is part of the Fingal County Council area. The idea is that if the station is built, it will greatly improve electricity supply to the area, which will help to attract investment to the area, as well as providing a better electricity supply to the existing community.

"At present Eirgrid is working on the Stage 1 consultancy report to identify environmental issues and other constraints. An information day is being held for the public at The Hilton Airport Hotel at Northern Cross on the Malahide Rd, just off the N32 on Wednesday September 14th between 3pm and 8pm. I would suggest that anyone interested in the proposal attend this meeting and make their views known to Eirgrid. I also would greatly appreciate hearing the views of constituents on the matter."
