Labour T.D., Sean Kenny today publicly endorsed Michael D Higgins's presidential campaign at a Dublin Labour Party event at the White Sands Hotel, Portmarnock.

"Having known Michael D Higgins for over 40 years, and sharing a West of Ireland background with him - I am firmly confident of his ability to become Ireland's next president. From our first meeting in 1971 at a Labour Party conference, Michael D has remained a strong and inspirational figure in the party."

"When he was Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht during the Rainbow government, he received a warm reception at a meeting in Coolock and I believe that he can identify with Dubliners just as well as citizens throughout Ireland."

"Michael D's campaign is constructed on creating an inclusive, creative society, dedicated to the welfare of Irish citizens - this fresh, fair and all-encompassing vision is something that is clearly resonating with people here in Dublin North East, and indeed all over Ireland. I am confident that Michael D's presidency will lift the morale of all Irish people in Ireland and abroad."
