Dublin North East Labour T.D. and Oireachtas Transport Committee Member Sean Kenny has welcomed the confirmation he has received, informing him that steps are being taken to improve the seat reservation on InterCity rail services.

"I raised this issue with the new Chairperson of Irish Rail when he came before the Oireachtas Transport Committee in July. He has since written to me and confirmed to me that pre-departure checks are being made to ensure that seat reservation displays are displaying names. If there is a failure, seats are reserved manually. He has also told me that there are weekly spot checks across the rail network to ensure that these steps are working correctly."

"I have no heard of problems with these systems at Dublin stations, but I have heard of some issues arising at major terminal stations outside of Dublin, where passengers on the return leg of their trip were not able to avail of the seat that they reserved.

"I am calling on Irish Rail to ensure that their systems are robust enough to handle seat reservations for passengers on return journeys, and also to ensure that there is a physical check in the form of a walk through undertaken by existing train station staff at each stop to ensure passengers with reserved seats are able to use their seats."
